About Kaori

I have always had an interest in photography. There is so much life, anticipation and joy at weddings, it’s a privilege to be there capturing these special moments with my camera. When a client says, “It’s ages since I saw my parents laugh like that!” I feel like I’ve delivered something of real, lasting value.

I am originally from Japan and have been living in West London since 1995. I have a background in Fine Art and portraiture and always strive to bring a fresh and modern approach to wedding photography, while still respecting the conservative aspects of weddings.

A travelling wedding photographer

Although I’m based in North West London, I cover weddings right across the UK and even abroad on occasions. I tend to cover weddings mostly in West London, covering Kensington & Chelsea, Acton, Chiswick, Ealing and Wembley areas. However, I’ve also travelled to the Home Counties and beyond on occasions and quite welcome the excuse to spend time outside of London.

Your Pre-Wedding Shoot

A pre-wedding shoot enables me to get first-hand knowledge of how you like to be in front of the camera, individually, as a couple and with a friend or two. It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know each other a bit, relax and discuss ideas.

I take notes about the itinerary for your wedding and a list of the kinds of shots you would like me to capture. We also get to discuss other things such as how you would like the photos to be presented. I can custom build a selection of albums for you, for instance. You can also use the photos from this session to add to your signing book for guests, so it’s a very productive hour to spend together.

By the time we are done, you will feel confident that all the photography side of things is essentially taken care of and you can focus on the big event itself.

A wedding photography style to suit all tastes

My clients come to me because they appreciate my unique blend of reportage, or documentary style shooting, with a more formal and traditional approach. By combining the two approaches, I am able to provide a broad range of stylish and contemporary photographs that suit all kinds of tastes in contemporary photography.

It’s my view that you get the best wedding photography by being both unobtrusive and organised. For certain shots I will direct people to do certain simple actions but in a way that will look perfectly natural and spontaneous in the picture.

The overriding principle to all that I do is to tell the story of your wedding day in a way that brings to life and preserves the most enjoyable moments you have shared with your groom or bride, family and friends.

From experience, I have learnt that in order to get the best results you have to be more than a smart photographer, you have to get to know your clients and consider carefully what they want from the event. And that’s why I offer all of my clients a pre-wedding shoot.

Wedding Photography – the craft

These days photography is not all about the camera and lens – software plays a big part too.
p. That’s why I do all my own retouching for the pictures you select for your album [link to price & products]. This crafting process enhances the mood and elegance of the best images I have taken. In fact, it can often take longer than the shoot itself, but I regard it as essential to the production process as the grading of a movie.
